New and 1-line conversations aren't logged

Reported by: Astu Owned by: dx

Description

Sometimes happened that some parts of conversations weren't logged. One time it happened in this way: my friend sent me some messages, then I answered whit one or two messages and then I closed the chat window. The second time happened almost like thw first: I opened the chat window of a contact, sent a message, and closed the chat window. My messages weren't logged in these cases.

I think this only happens with few messages sent/received, since I didn't have such problems with longer conversations. I don't remember this happened some time ago...

I got this problem again: I couldn't contact my friend because messages weren't sent! (so not even logged). I tried many times to open the window and write one or more messages, or nudges but nothing was sent (my friend didn't answer and nothing was logged, so i think messages weren't sent) So I opened a chat window, sent a message and then closed it; this is what I got from the terminal, hope it helps:

Sorry, I have to correct. The messages were sent, so the problem is only with logging and not in sending messages...

Hello, i confirm that if you:

open a new window

send some text like "HAI"

close the window

that message isn't logged

It's a misinterpretation of a problem. The missing log pieces are actually not missing, they just don't show in the corresponding contact's log viewer window. It's because the contact didn't respond anything and thus log viewer fails to sort these messages to those contacts whom these belong to.

If you're present as a contact on your own contact list and open log viewer from your name you can see every existing logs, where you're a participant in the actual conversation. When you're the only participant, log viewer thinks these 'conversations' belong ONLY to you.

We're waiting for a fix to this. :)

Ok, good explanation :) We're waiting

I have observed this problem too, and sometimes even in a long conversation the last messages I send before closing the window are not properly logged, while the messages received and those sent before an answer are there.

Also, if I receive a message from someone who appears to be offline, said message is not logged - or at least does not appear in the log viewer.

I wonder if it wouldn't make more sense to save separate logs for each contact, like MSN Messenger, aMSN, and (I think) WLM do? That would be an instant fix for this bug, for if one wants the chat log for a certain contact, all one has to do is to read that contact's file (which invariably would contain all relevant messages) instead of searching for each message individually (and missing about half of them).
