Yes definitely critical! what i would give to have a jabber client that can send receive audio clips, voice convo's, webcam steams, and audio/video conferences. This would truly make it as good as msn. This is what all other linux clients arnt able to do aswell as microsoft... maybe you can :D

  • version set to 1.0pre-svn

Yeah agreed...Emesene has everything that a good client would dream about BUT webcam and voice chat is JUST what it takes to be THE Client, to be a big name and, of course, to be recognized as the greatest chat client on Earth! My opinion: if i didn't need webcam, file transfer service and voice chat, emesene would have beat wlm. no doubt. But wait, we are talking about an open-source messenger client to match windows live messenger's features and i know that the Emesene Team will do that for us! It's just a matter of time, you'll see ;)

Long life to Emesene! Easy, simple, beauty, heavyless.

Aw... I was sad to see this in milestone 4.5... but I understand! it's not an easy thing to do. For me, take your time, do it well, and we're good friends :-). I love the work you're doing with emesene! There were some basic things I needed in an IM for the MSN network, and all are done but this, so you deserve our respect i guess... - avatar for both persons in the conversation window but *not* inside the conversation textarea. you got it. - main window with easy nick + subnick + state changer... done (i actually prefer to WLM!) - customizable emoticons... done! ( maybe a little more polish? nah... it still rocks) - file transfers... (oh.. well... it's on its way soon right?) - video/audio (someday...)

For some reason, when you guys say it will be here in the future, I believe you. When pidgin guys say it, i'm like... yeah, whatever, like duke nukem forever right? So, thanks emesene devs :)

The pymsn devs are planning to implement this as well. You should probably work together to get this job done! http://telepathy.freedesktop.org/wiki/Pymsn

Changed 7 months ago by anonymous

Any news about somebody looking at implementing it? This would be a nice feature! :)

Otherwise creating an unofficial plugin would be a great idea, or not?

Changed 6 months ago by anonymous

This is all it takes to be the BEST msn client!

Changed 6 months ago by rockertux@…

Why not using part of aMSN code? Maybe it's not necessary to reinvent the wheel...

Changed 6 months ago by anonymous

Or simply look at it to see how to begin... Please, can someone begin implementing it, only receiving for example? Uploading webcam stream could be added after we can receive...

Look here http://mirror.linux.org.au/pub/linux.conf.au/2008/slides/163-farsight2-lca2008-presentation.pdf and here http://farsight.freedesktop.org/wiki/ maybe can help, i've read that they're developing an abstraction layer for this purpose.

It is just what we need, we can use version one of this libraries to do it. This weekend i will start implement and test a python wrapper with SWIG because this library is written in C. I will report you new news.

Maybe it is, but it's anyway a start point...better then making it from null :) I hope to help as much as i can because i really like this messenger.

P.S.: Sorry if i'm making an offtopic, but i've made a ticket for black squares as emoticons into ubuntu...can anyone help me? Sorry another time for off topic.

How can it be broken when Pidgin is using it to have the A/V support?

Please take a look at [ffmpeg.mplayerhq.hu] the news, June 11 entry, the Mimic demuxer thing. Maybe it helps. Mimic muxer maybe is in the works.
